The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), a federal nutrition program, is widely recognized as an important safeguard for protecting and improving the health and nutrition of pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding individuals, infants, and children up to 5 years of age from households with low incomes.
Since 1997, Congress — on a bipartisan basis — has provided sufficient funding each year for WIC to serve all eligible applicants.
Despite its value and community impact, the President’s FY26 Budget Request proposes a significant cut to the WIC program, reducing funding by nearly $300 million. On July 9, the Senate Appropriations Committee advanced their FY26 Agriculture Appropriations Bill that fully funds (WIC) with bipartisan support.
Ask your Member of Congress to oppose the proposed cuts in the President’s budget and support the bipartisan FY26 Senate Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill that funds WIC at $8.2 billion and does not cut benefits.
