Welcome to the Summer 2021 issue of AKC’s In Session newsletter.
Inside, learn about the bipartisan Healthy Dog Importation Act of 2021. This bill requires dogs being imported into the United States –a whopping estimated 1 million per year—to provide validated health certificates upon entry. The measure is designed to protect public health and forestall a potential health crisis related to the recent increase in imported dogs carrying dangerous parasites and contagious zoonotic diseases. H.R. 4239/S. 2597 is strongly supported by the American Kennel Club, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and numerous animal advocacy and agricultural groups.
