The Michigan legislature is considering a number of bills that must be approved. HB 4008 would add religious, philosophical, and medical exemptions to vaccines administered due to a pandemic. Another bill, HB 4471, prohibits employers from discriminating against employees based on vaccination status; HB 4791 also prohibits employment discrimination based on COVID-19 vaccination or immunity status; HB 4792 prohibits places of public accommodation from requiring proof of COVID -19 vaccination status; HB 4736 prohibits the Dept. of Health from adopting rules requiring an individual be vaccinated for COVID; SB 629 r
equires that certain medical and nonmedical exemptions to immunization be recognized by public and private colleges and universities in Michigan that require student immunization as a condition to certain services, programs, and facilities offered by those colleges and universities; HB 4790 prohibits political subdivisions from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination or immunity; HB 4667 prohibits state and local government from requiring proof COVID-19 vaccination or fines; and HB 5457
provides for a COVID-19 immunization exemption for school children who have previously been infected with SARS-CoV-2 as indicated by a positive antibody test result.
There will be incredible pressure to make COVID-19 vaccination compulsory. We need options available to us to opt out of vaccination, given the pace at which a vaccine is being pushed through approval with unknown safety ramifications.
Write to your legislators and urge them to support these important bills.
