SUCCESS! SUD Workforce Loan Repayment Legislation Passed!

H.R. 5102/S. 2524, the Substance Use Disorder Workforce Loan Repayment Act of 2018 has been included in the bipartisan opioid package that Congress passed in early October. This legislation provides student loan repayment assistance to counselors and other behavioral health professionals. The bill will now be sent to President Trump for signature.
 
The inclusion of this provision is a major success for the counseling profession. Congress has recognized the need to increase the SUD workforce and is aware of the vital role mental health counselors will play in that process. NBCC will continue to fight for increased funding for the profession.
