Support Supplement Eligibility through Supplemental Nutrition Programs
Friends,

Improving nutrition across the United States is one of the most critical low-cost, high-benefit policies Congress and state legislators should embrace. Recent estimates suggest that at least 80% of Americans take at least one dietary supplement as a safe, effective, and affordable way to maintain good health and augment inadequate diets. While a healthy diet is a foundation for better health, even the most well-informed and well-intentioned consumers sometimes eat differently than they should. Supplements, which are easy to add to our daily diets, are often the first step many take toward greater nutritional awareness and healthy lifestyle choices. Whether taking a multivitamin, herbal product, or specialty supplement, people can live healthier lives by supplementing their diets.

So when medical professionals are recommending Americans support their health with essential nutrients such as Vitamin C, Zinc, and Vitamin D, why are supplements still not eligible for purchase through Conneticut's supplemental nutrition assistance program?

Today, we have the power to fix that.

Representative Simms' proposal recognizes the importance of allowing consumers more choices when it comes to how they use their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance.

Write your state lawmakers today urging their support for HB 5759.

Thanks,
