  • Star Grassroots Advocates
    • In late February, PAEA Government Relations staff participated in a training session on grassroots advocacy with the students at the Creighton University PA program. Thank you for your interest and leadership!
  • Advancing PAEA’s Advocacy Agenda
    • On February 10, the Trump administration released its FY21 budget proposal, once again calling for significant cuts to Title VII and federal student aid programs. PAEA condemned the proposed cuts in a written statement and urged the administration to focus on addressing key cost drivers in health professions education, such as clinical site payments, rather than restricting access to federal financing for PA students.
    • The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released a request for information on proposed policy interventions to address rising rates of maternal morbidity and mortality. In response, PAEA provided data to the agency on the significant difficulty programs face in securing women’s health clinical rotations and urged the agency to leverage reimbursement policy to promote training opportunities.
  • Health Care News in Washington
    • In late February, Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar testified before the House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations subcommittee on the administration’s FY21 budget. During her opening remarks, Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) criticized the administration’s proposed cuts to health workforce development programs.
    • The House Energy and Commerce Health subcommittee held a legislative hearing in early February on the impact of vaping and the practices of e-cigarette manufacturers on public health.
  • Opportunities for Action
    • PAEA is continuing to ask PA education advocates to support a bipartisan proposal to extend the National Health Service Corps and authorize new investments in OB/GYN clinical rotations. If you have not already contacted your representatives in support of this proposal, please do so today.
