Congress is in the middle of negotiations for the next COVID-19 stimulus package, and it’s crucial that legislation supports the grocery and convenience store industries. Congressional leaders need to hear from businesses who are directly affected, and we are encouraging WFIA members to contact their elected officials.
Early on in the pandemic, the convenience store and grocery industries were designated as part of the nation’s critical infrastructure workforce, and retailers and their suppliers across the U.S. have remained open to provide Americans access to fuel, food and other necessities. Our industries have taken substantial measures to protect both guests and employees serving on the front lines from the spread of this contagious virus. Throughout the past several months, several priorities have become important for our industries:
- rewarding essential frontline workers by exclusion of income and payroll taxes
- fixing unemployment compensation
- protecting essential businesses from frivolous lawsuits
- strengthening federal nutrition programs
We need these priorities in the next COVID-19 aid bill to support our employers and our workers. Take action today and tell your elected officials to include these priorities in the next COVID-19 stimulus package.
