The House is set to vote on big cuts to Medicaid the week of May 19 and your congressional representative is a key vote on Medicaid cuts at the federal level. Even if you have already contacted your lawmaker on this issue, they need to hear from you again! Please share this opportunity with colleagues, friends, and family.
The details: Congress is cutting Medicaid to fund other priorities. But cutting spending on health care doesn’t make the need for care go away. Instead, the bill shifts the burden of covering the costs to hospitals.
The budget plan will hurt Washington communities and hospitals. Medicaid provides health care access to nearly 2 million people and hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes all depend on Medicaid payments to sustain their operations. This means health care access gets worse for everyone, not just those covered by Medicaid. Without the vital funding provided by Medicaid, there will be longer waits and closures of clinics and maybe even hospitals.
With a one-seat Republican majority in the House, even a few representatives standing up to oppose Medicaid cuts will make a difference. Your member of Congress needs to understand the impact these cuts would have on communities and hospitals in their districts.
The opportunity: Edit the message to the right to tell your representative how cuts would impact your hospital and community. Please send your message as soon as possible and share this opportunity with your colleagues, friends, and family.
