Connecticut law already requires unions to file sworn annual financial reports and provide them to members. These transparency rules protect workers by ensuring they can see how their dues are being spent. When reporting laws are not enforced, accountability suffers and members lose access to important financial information.
Lowering reporting standards would reward noncompliance and reduce oversight. Instead of weakening the law, policymakers should focus on enforcing existing requirements and strengthening compliance tools. Transparency helps prevent misuse of funds and protects both union members and responsible union leaders. Stronger enforcement, not weaker standards, is the right solution.
