Michigan is on the brink of a preventable healthcare crisis, and Senate Majority Leader, Winnie Brinks, needs to move this bill.
On March 28, 2026, Michigan will lose its participation in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) because the original legislation included a sunset provision that was not extended in time. If HB 5455 is not passed before that deadline, more than 5,000 physicians will lose their ability to practice in our state overnight.
These physicians care for an average of 20 patients per day. That means approximately 100,000 Michigan patients could suddenly be left without a physician on March 28.
This is not a policy debate. It is a patient access emergency.
