Dear AACN Advocate:While thankfully the government shutdown has ended, the current continuing resolution that funds nursing education, workforce, and research program expires on January 30, 2026 unless Congress can pass the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education spending bill sooner. We need your help to save these nursing programs! We urge you to take action and continue to push for funding for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) by contacting your members of Congress and asking them to:
- Fund all Title VIII Programs and NINR in FY 2026 at the highest possible levels, including at least the bipartisan Senate Appropriations Committee-approved levels of:
- At least $303.472 million for the Title VIII Programs, which address all aspects of nursing workforce demand, including education, practice, recruitment, and retention.
- At least $197.693 million for NINR, where nurse researchers and scientists make groundbreaking and lifesaving healthcare discoveries that inform nursing practice and education.
- Reauthorize the Title VIII Programs by cosponsoring and passing the bipartisan Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025 (S.1874/H.R.3593).
Over the next few vital weeks that we have to make our voices heard, we thank you for your efforts in conducting this essential outreach to your members of Congress.
