Help Build Support for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act Today
Dear AACN Advocates,

As we work to pass the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025 (S.1874/H.R.3593), we need your help to build momentum and additional support for this bill on Capitol Hill. This bipartisan and bicameral legislation would reauthorize the Nursing Workforce Development Programs (Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act [42 U.S.C. 296 et. seq]) through Fiscal Year 2030 and align them with current needs in the profession. Specifically, the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025 would:

  • Allow traineeship grants to support clinical education and nurse preceptors;
  • Allow Nurse Education, Practice, Quality, and Retention Program grants to cover the cost of nurse training technologies, as well as to increase the number of students and faculty at nursing schools; and,
  • Allow Title VIII funds to promote partnerships with health facilities to expand clinical education.

The Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs comprise the largest dedicated federal funding for nursing and strengthen all aspects of the nursing workforce, including education, practice, recruitment, and retention, especially in rural and underserved areas. Support for these programs is critical to creating, maintaining, and promoting high-quality, patient-centered care across a range of settings. This reauthorization legislation is essential to ensuring our profession’s ability to serve patients who rely upon nurses amidst current and projected shortages.

Please send a message to your members of Congress today asking them to cosponsor and pass the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025!
