Over the next few weeks, Senators and Representatives will be back in their states and districts engaging with constituents during the August work period. It is imperative that they hear about academic nursing priorities directly from you! As we prepare for the fall, your outreach is especially timely because Congress will have very limited legislative days to consider key priorities upon their return to Washington, DC in September.
Specifically, we urge you to take action and send messages to your federal policymakers asking them to prioritize support for academic nursing by:
Cosponsoring and passing the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025 (S.1874/H.R.3593), which reauthorizes these vital programs. The Title VIII Programs address all aspects of nursing workforce demand, including education, practice, recruitment, and retention.
Providing at least $610 million for all Title VIII Programs and at least $215 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research in Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 appropriations.
Supporting nursing as a professional degree for purposes of federal student loan access, as well as bolstering our nursing schools, faculty, and students by cosponsoring and passing the following legislation:
- Nursing is a Professional Degree Act (S.4568/H.R.8691).
- A Congressional Review Act Joint Resolution disapproving of the Department of Education’s final rule arbitrarily limiting federal student loan access for nurses(H.J.Res.189).
- Providing Real-World Education and Clinical Experience by Precepting Tomorrow’s (PRECEPT) Nurses Act (S.131/H.R.392).
- Nurse Faculty Shortage Reduction Act (S.3707/H.R.7279).
- Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act (S.1548/H.R.3145).
- Future Advancement of Academic Nursing (FAAN) Act (S.3435/H.R.6607).
