Alessandra’s Law (NJ A2579) is named in memory of Alessandra Del Principe, who tragically passed away from an asthma attack while attending her sister’s wedding. The bill A2579 is being sponsored by NJ Assemblyman Erik Peterson. In partnership with AAFA, the bill proposes that Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) be present at events to provide immediate medical assistance in the event of an emergency. For gatherings with fewer than 1,000 attendees, venues would be required to notify patrons of the option to hire an EMT. For events with 1,000 or more people, the law would mandate an EMT’s presence.By passing this bill, New Jersey has an opportunity to lead the way in public safety and ensure that no family endures a preventable loss like Alessandra’s. For people living with asthma, food allergies, or other medical conditions, quick access to emergency care can mean the difference between life and death. Alessandra’s Law is about preparedness, compassion, and the shared responsibility we all have to protect one another at community events.
