The Academy has been working with the American College of Surgeons and other physician organizations to secure long-term Medicare payment reform.
As part of this effort, the Academy is urging Congress to implement an annual payment adjustment tied to the Medicare Economic Index (MEI), and to reform budget neutrality rules that have long undermined stability in physician payments.
These reforms are essential for implementing long-term, structural change that provides predictability and sustainability in Medicare payments, as our health care system is reaching a breaking point. Rising practice costs and declining Medicare reimbursements are putting immense strain on physician practices and threatening patients’ access to the highest quality care.
Make your voice heard. Urge your lawmakers to include legislation that provides long-term payment stability in a must-pass bill.
