With the National Eye Institute (NEI) facing the threat of consolidation into a broader neuroscience and brain research institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Academy, ARVO, AUPO, NAEVR, and the American Academy of Optometry are working closely with the ophthalmic and research communities to maintain the independence of the NEI.
