Issue
Repeal the National Voter Registration Act
Details:
U.S. Representative Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) has introduced legislation to repeal the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA), also known as the “Motor Voter” Act. The NVRA has fundamentally compromised the integrity of our electoral system by requiring states to register voters without proof of citizenship.
It was signed into law by President Bill Clinton with the primary aim of increasing voter registration, making the election process “more accessible to the general public,” and boosting election participation among groups that are “historically underrepresented.” (Sounds just like the reasons Democrats oppose photo ID in order to vote!)
According to Article I, Section 4, Congress can only regulate the times, places, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives. Neither this Section nor the enumerated powers in Section 8 of the same Article give the federal government this type authority over the states.
This federal overreach has bloated the voter lists and stymied states’ efforts to clean up their voter rolls, leading to great damage to our voter integrity. Representative Biggs HR 55 would restore electoral integrity and state sovereignty by returning the responsibility of voter registration to the states. https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/55/text
