Reintroduction of The Living Donor Protection Act
Every day, living organ donors save lives but too often, they face discrimination from insurance companies when they step up to give the gift of life.

The Living Donor Protection Act (LDPA), H.R. 4583,  would break down barriers to donation by:

- Prohibiting life, disability, and long-term care insurance companies from denying or limiting coverage or charging higher premiums for living organ donors;
- Requiring the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to update educational materials to reflect these protections and promote donation.

Changes to LDPA.

The House of Representatives decided to remove the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) portion of the Living Donor Protection Act (LDPA) and introduce it separately as a stand-alone bill. The FMLA bill, H.R. 4582 has also been introduced. This separation makes it easier for LDPA to get through its respective House committees. The Senate version of the LDPA bill still includes the FMLA protections. It is anticipated that the final bill will end up being the Senate version.
