Right now, Congress is weighing key decisions about the future of our nation’s water infrastructure—creating an important opportunity to invest in solutions that are more practical, resilient, and designed for long-term impact.
ASLA worked closely with U.S. Representatives Nikema Williams and Emilia Sykes to reintroduce the Water Infrastructure Sustainability and Efficiency (WISE) Act in the 119th Congress. The legislation strengthens federal investment in sustainable water infrastructure by permanently dedicating 20 percent of Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) resources—the nation’s primary source of water infrastructure funding—to nature-based solutions, water efficiency, and innovative stormwater management.
As ASLA CEO Torey Carter-Conneen said, “Permanently doubling investment in nature-based solutions is a practical step toward safer, healthier, and more livable communities. By reducing flooding, improving water quality, and lowering long-term costs, these investments deliver lasting benefits people can see and feel in their daily lives, especially in communities most in need. Landscape architects see the impact of these solutions firsthand; our work in planning and design proves they deliver results. Congress should act now to advance the WISE Act.”
To build the support needed for passage, we need more voices to engage. Landscape architects are encouraged to reach out to their members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor the WISE Act and expand access to proven, cost-effective water infrastructure solutions.
Please tell your legislators to support the WISE Act and strengthen investment in nature-based solutions.
