Disabled Veterans in most states in the country cannot apply for a property tax exemption until after they own the home. Since they are not exempt during the underwriting process, taxes are counted against them when qualifying for their mortgage. Many thousands of dollars are collected at closing to pay tax bills that will simply be refunded back to the Veteran later, causing undue financial stress our disabled veterans cannot afford.
The Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exemption allows 100% Permanent and Total Disabled Veterans to apply for real estate tax exemption before taking ownership of a home, increasing access to homeownership among disabled Veterans by increasing their buying power by tens of thousands of dollars when they need it most.
Help us give disabled Veterans in your state the homebuying power they've earned, by sending an email to your legislators to bring their awareness to this emerging issue, and ask them to support and endorse the Disabled Veterans Tax Exemption bill once it's introduced in their states.
