AB 84 Hurts Vulnerable CA Students
AB 84 is the wrong move for California students.

If passed, this bill would cut funding for non-classroom-based charter public schools by up to 30%—schools that serve students who need flexible, safe, and personalized learning environments. These students might be escaping difficult family situations or undergoing cancer treatments. It would also add new administrative costs for all charter schools, further diverting resources from classrooms to bureaucracy.

AB 84 doesn’t stop there. It would add burdensome new restrictions, create layers of red tape, and make it nearly impossible to open new charter public schools, even in communities where families are desperately seeking more options.

This bill isn’t about accountability—it’s about limiting access to quality education. Lawmakers should reject AB 84 and focus on real solutions that prioritize students’ needs.
