Volunteer help needed to collect signatures

As you are reading this newsletter the Stop Gillnets Now campaign (formerly known as the Protect Our Salmon Act) is in high gear gathering signatures and raising the necessary funds to ensure a victory at the ballot box in November.  This gives us volunteers some exciting opportunities to be a big part of what promises to be an historic moment for conservationists and recreational anglers in the Pacific Northwest.

To make this the most successful campaign possible it is important that we all do what we can by gathering signatures, contributing funds, and educating those around us.  We have gone to great lengths, hired the best professionals, and participated in the process all to arrive at this historic opportunity to remove gill nets from the inland waters of Oregon. A victory will forever change how conservationists and recreational anglers are viewed by managing agencies and the political system they are accountable to

YOUR HELP is needed as a volunteer signature gather.

Below is a list of leaders within your chapter to contact to get all the forms and basic training that you'll need to collect signatures.

Salem - Ken Chambers - chambersken@juno.com
Portland - John Zell - jzell@zephyr.net
Tualatin Valley - Brandon Davis - brandonwd@yahoo.com
Willamette Falls - Jim Mickel - jimrbboats@aol.com
Willamette Falls - Gary Wise - gkwise@molalla.net
Tillamook - Jack Smith - jackandtina@centurylink.net
Col. County - Paul Mikesh - paulmikesh@comcast.net
Mt. Hood - Wade Radke - wade.radke@gmail.com
Eugene - Danny Raymond - drayguides@msn.com

Gathering signatures is a way for volunteers to participate at whatever level they are able. From simply getting your family and friends to sign, staking out the local boat ramp or participating in mass signature gathering events coordinated by your chapter each and every signature is critically important.  Every contact is not only an opportunity for an additional signature but also a chance to educate people about the existence of gill nets and the many problems created by this method of harvest.  You will be surprised by how many folks just don't know what a gillnet is, how it works, and the harm done.

PLEASE, contact the lead person in your chapter area and get started...we need your help!
