170K people could lose housing
Last week, HUD released the FY2025 Continuum of Care Program (CoC) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The NOFO provides significant changes to the CoC Program Application that would result in the loss of 170K units of affordable housing.

HUD intends to cap the total amount of funding that each CoC can use for permanent housing to only 30 percent of CoC funds. Currently, 87 percent of all CoC-funded projects are for permanent housing (Permanent Supportive Housing and Rapid Re-Housing).  This change alone would result in the loss of permanent housing assistance for more than 170,000 people nationwide, including older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and families with children. Nearly every CoC in the country will be negatively impacted by this change

We at Catholic Charities are concerned about this because we use these funds to ensure protected classes have equal access to housing. We anticipate this could impact our Catholic Charities Housing programs, including our Senior Housing Programs.

Please advocate with us on this issue and help us ensure that all people have access to affordable housing in our great city. Send a message to your members of Congress asking them to include in the appropriations bill language requiring HUD to renew all existing Continuum of Care grants expiring during calendar year 2026 for 12 months.
