White oak forests cover millions of acres across the country and are extremely important ecologically and economically. Their acorns provide food for wildlife while the trees serve as a critical resource for several American industries from furniture to barrels for wine and spirits.
This act targets multiple restoration strategies. First, it codifies the White Oak Restoration Initiative Coalition, a diverse group of partners committed to long-term white oak sustainability. Second, it creates U.S. Forest Service pilot projects to replant white oak. Third, it increase the capacity of the U.S. Forest Service tree nurseries and reforestation funds allocated for national forests.
By endorsing the White Oak Resilience Act, you are ensuring long-term sustainability of this key species for wildlife and economic sustainability.
