Remind your federal representatives that coal is no longer financially viable
The last large-scale coal plant built was Texas’s Sandy Creek Energy Station, which came online in 2013. That’s because natural gas rapidly became cost-competitive and surpassed coal—and now, the favorable economics of clean energy outpace both completely. At this point, it's hardly surprising that recent federal lease sales have been delayed due to lack of interest or resulted in meager bids. But that won't stop the Trump administration from doubling down on coal.
