Addressing the climate crisis is an all-hands-on-deck situation. As college students prepare to enter various professional fields, it is important that they are informed about the many facets of climate change and the impacts of global warming on the environment and communities everywhere.
In the class of 2028, approximately 7,000 University of California, San Diego graduates will be better prepared to deal with the effects of climate change—no matter their degree.
This revolutionary step is the result of UC San Diego's new climate change course requirement, which is the first of its kind in the country. Students will be able to choose from over 40 courses that approach climate change from a variety of angles, ensuring that graduates are equipped with knowledge and solutions that suit their careers and interests.
As a renowned institution and leader in preeminent education, the University of Michigan has always set a strong example for other institutions. We believe that now is the right time to build on UCSD's momentum by having other campuses develop a similar requirement for all undergraduates.
There is no profession that will be unaffected by climate change, so it is imperative that all students are prepared for what the future holds.
We hope you will consider taking the necessary action to encourage this requirement. Thank you.
