FactCheck.org weighs in: Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms
|
|
|
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 22, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Barack Obama, take note. FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, has stated definitively that Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms.
“Women can’t walk into a Planned Parenthood clinic and get a mammogram on the spot,” the website clarifies. “The clinics don’t have mammography equipment.” Instead, the abortion provider “refers women to other facilities to have mammograms performed.”
In the second presidential debate, President Obama stated that “millions of women all across the country” rely on Planned Parenthood “for mammograms.” He made a similar claim just days earlier in an interview with Glamour magazine, whose readership consists of teenage girls.
Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards has also claimed her organization provided “mammograms” last February, feeding the persistent myth that the organization provides these screenings.
The myth had been shattered before, most notably in 2011 when Live Action called 30 Planned Parenthood clinics in 27 states to schedule mammograms. None offered the service.
Following Obama’s misstatement, more than 1,000 people called their local Planned Parenthood facility to schedule a mammogram. They, too, were unable to schedule that service.
“For so long PP has touted that they are a provider of mammogram services,” said former Planned Parenthood Director Abby Johnson. “This is just one of the lies that PP uses to draw people into their clinics.”
As Karen Malec, president of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, told LifeSiteNews.com. “They just do the manual exam that women can do at home, and then they charge women for it.”
Cecile Richards makes nearly $400,000 a year. Read more here.

FDA Contradicts Obama: Planned Parenthood Not Licensed to Do Mammograms
|
|
|
Though President Obama has stated that women “rely” on Planned Parenthood for vital health procedures such as mammograms, the Food and Drug Administration denies that to be true. In fact, the FDA indicates that no Planned Parenthood facility in the United States is licensed to do mammograms.
During Tuesday’s presidential debate with GOP contender Mitt Romney, Obama declared:
When Gov. Romney says that we should eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood, there are millions of women all across the country who rely on Planned Parenthood for not just contraceptive care; they rely on it for mammograms, for cervical cancer screenings. That’s a pocketbook issue for women and families all across the country, and it makes a difference in terms of how well and effectively women are able to work.
The FDA is responsible for the licensing of mammography centers to own and operate mammogram machines. If a facility owns or operates a mammogram machine without a government license, it could result in a $10,000 fine. According to the FDA, Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms.
The Department of Health and Human Services made the same statement following an FOIA request four months ago. CNS News notes:
Last June, the Department of Health and Human Services said in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that no Planned Parenthood clinic in the United States has mammogram equipment.
An April 2 Freedom of Information request to the FDA from the Alliance Defense Fund asked for “All currently active certificates to operate a mammography facility issued by the FDA or by any state or entity designated to provide such certificates by the FDA for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, any affiliate of Planned Parenthood Federation of America or any entity whose name included ‘Planned Parenthood.’”
The HHS responded in a letter on June 4 that said, “In your request you asked for the following, all currently active certificates to operate a mammography facility for Planned Parenthood. In response to your information request, we have performed a thorough and diligent investigation of our records and there are no adverse events for these firms. Unfortunately our search did not uncover any documents pertinent to your request.” Read more here.

Undercover Reporter Infiltrates World Abortion Biz Conference

by Population Research Institute | LifeNews.com | 10/29/12 4:08 PM
How do abortionists talk when they get together? We went undercover at the International Federation of Professional Abortion and Contraception Associates (FIAPAC) annual meeting of abortionists, clinic workers and champions of abortion-on-demand to find out.
This year’s FIAPAC Congress, in October in Edinburgh, Scotland, brought together 460 delegates from 45 countries. Most were front-line abortion “providers”, that is, abortionists, clinic administrators and counsellors, and three quarters were women, feminists all. Many of them wore shaved heads and work boots.
The male minority were mostly abortionists. One South American attendee wore his silver hair in a long pony tail and cowboy boots. Australia’s leading late-term abortionist appeared in Jackaroo (cowboy) garb — jeans with a big belt buckle, cowboy boots and a black t-shirt. The European abortionists, who work in hospitals rather than run their own clinics, were generally more conservatively dressed. And there was also a smattering of pro-abortion lawyers, policy hacks, statisticians and researchers.
Given the gruesome nature of their work, it is not surprising that these hardened abortion activists were there to be inspired. Ann Furedi was head cheerleader for that job. As the CEO of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, which provides about one quarter of all British abortions and specializes in late-term abortions, Furedi has been one of Britain’s most vocal abortion-on-demand advocates for decades. She is also a notorious Leftist who used to edit Living Marxism and married the British Revolutionary Communist Party leader. Her opening plenary talk, believe it or not, was entitled “The Moral Case for Abortion.”
Having to contend with “all those Lennart Nilsson photos of a 17 week-old fetus sucking its thumb,” has made abortion activists like us “necessarily a little bit apologetic,” she complained. “It’s not surprising that a lot of young people are not enthusiastic about abortion. They’re not enthusiastic about killing unborn babies.”
What’s more, she went on, it hasn’t helped that “most women who come to our clinics are there because they are in personal need, not because they are pro-choice.” So what is a self-respecting abortionist to do? For far too long, said Furendi, the abortion movement has let religious anti-choice extremists dictate the agenda. But now the time is ripe to claim that “abortion is right.” She touted the work of Catholics for Choice in undermining the Church’s moral authority.
In a bizarre segue, she even attempted to enlist the great Catholic thinker Blaise Pascal in her defense of abortion by quoting his famous dictum: “We know the truth not only by reason but also by the human heart.” Of course, if Furendi’s heart tells her that it is morally right to kill unborn babies, then it can reasonably be argued that she doesn’t have one.
“We need to claim the moral high ground,” she continued in her effort to rally her abortion-minded listeners. And she did that by asserting that women’s equality cannot be achieved without a right to abortion. “We cannot have equality if we are constantly victims of our own fertility. A woman is not just a vehicle for pregnancy.”
“I respect human life,” she claimed, “but there are elements of human life that make us people…personal autonomy, decision-making…bodily integrity. It is morally reprehensible to deny this capacity for choice and decision making.”
It was like listening to a cannibal say, “I respect human life, but we cannot be who we are, who we are meant to be, namely, cannibals, unless we are allowed to eat our fellows.” Read more here. |

Abortion Kills Children and Entire Populations
|
|
|
By Benjamin Bull
10/16/2012
Since Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in January 1973, more than 55 million babies have been aborted in America.
If a number like “55 million” is hard to grasp, think of it this way—if you added together the populations of New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, and San Francisco, you would only have about 26.1 million people—less than half the number aborted.
Looked at in this way, it’s easier to understand just how many missing people “55 million” represents.
Yet the tremendous number of lives taken here actually pales in comparison to the number of human lives wiped out in other countries, where abortion has been legal for longer and Christianity sidelined more readily.
In the former Soviet Union, where abortion for medical reasons was declared legal in 1955 and abortion for any reason was legalized in 1968, the number of abortions was approximately 113.2 million through 1980—a profoundly staggering number.
During this moral nadir the average Soviet woman had 8 abortions.
As recently as 2008, abortion was still “the common method of birth control” in Russia.
Starting from a ban on abortion and projecting forward just a few decades, it’s very difficult to grasp the magnitude of this human, demographic, and moral tragedy. Over time the de facto meaning of words like “medical necessity” has become “abortion on demand.” Might we be headed down the same path? Many today seem to be engaged in a form of moral and demographic solipsism—pretending or denying the reality that a loss of human life on this scale will have no effect.
Some abortion advocates these days fight to prevent women from seeing ultrasound images of the babies they carry. Some will not even discuss the enormous numbers of unborn children dying each year or the cumulative total of humans lost to abortion in the United States. Read more here. |

Leading into Final Days of Early Voting, Approximately 1 Million Tennesseans Have Cast Ballots
(Published: October 29, 2012)
Turnout for the November 6 election neared 1 million voters on Saturday, the tenth day of the early voting period in Tennessee. More than 180,000 voters cast their votes on Friday and Saturday to bring the statewide total to 999,061 voters. By comparison, approximately 985,000 voters had cast ballots through the same period in 2008.
“Our turnout continues to outpace comparable elections,” said Secretary of State Tre Hargett. “It is also important to remember that voters wishing to vote by mail must be sure their absentee ballot request applications are received by county election commissions by October 30.”
The in-person early voting period will continue through Thursday. Voters with questions regarding the locations and hours of early voting or the absentee by-mail process are encouraged to contact their local election commission offices.
