  What was this person thinking???

Many will recall that when I urge folks to make these ALL IMPORTANT calls/emails (and they ARE important and they DO work), I  remind folks to ALWAYS be polite and gracious.  [It is just good manners, in addition, my mama taught me that honey draws more flies than vinegar!)

Yesterday in the House State Government Committee meeting, Rep. Johnny Shaw reported that a supporter of the Sanctuary City bill called and threatened him, insulted him and used unacceptable language.

He indicated that he will report this to law enforcement - I hope he does - and I hope the caller is confronted.

This kind of behavior is totally unacceptable just on the human level. As a man created in the image of God and a duly elected lawmaker, Rep. Shaw deserves and should receive nothing but our respect. After the meeting I told him how sorry I was that that happened.

  Municipal ID Bill

HB2312 has been sent the House Calendar and Rules.  Please begin contacting members

SB2333 is scheduled for the Senate Floor.  Please contact the Senators and urge them to vote for this bill.

NO MUNICIPAL IDs:
SB 2333 by *Green, Bell, HB 2312 by *Lamberth, Casada, Hill M, Holt
Public Officials - As introduced, prohibits the use of consular identification cards, and other similar documents not authorized by the general assembly for use for identification purposes, for determining a person's identity or residency by an official or employee of the state or any political subdivision of the state; prohibits local governments and law enforcement agencies from establishing the acceptability of any such cards or documents.
Local jurisdictions, some formally declared sanctuary status and others operating informally as such, have issued local identification cards that are accepted by local law enforcement and for other purposes, as a valid form of identification.

Remember, locally issued identification cards are most benefit illegal aliens by enabling them to reside in the jurisdiction under an impression of lawful presence. Each of the candidates running for mayor in Nashville during the last election cycle supported Municipal IDs.

  Anti-Sanctuary City Bill

HB2315 is still in House State Government Committee.  Please continue to contact them urging them to support this bill.  The opponents are REALLY making those contacts asking the legislators to DEFEAT our bill.

SB2332 is scheduled for the Senate Floor.  It is VITAL to contact the Senators and POLITELY urge them to support this bill. We have been spending so much time in the House, that contact with the Senators has been minimal. Please be faithful.

If anyone wants to know why I have so many wrinkles and my hair is white, yesterday is an excellent example of the cause.

GOOD NEWS:
I am SO GLAD to report that the Municipal ID bill was voted out of the House State Government Committee and is on it's way to the House Calendar and Rules Committee.

MIXED NEWS:
The Sanctuary City bill is another story.  After extended discussion and opponents testifying against it, a member of the committee called attention to a question that he felt had not been dealt with thoroughly in the language of the bill and it ALMOST (again!) was sent to 'Summer Study'.  HOWEVER, the committee members were kind enough to move it to the next (and last) committee meeting (we don't know when that will be yet), giving us time to come up with language that will suffice.

Please continue to POLITELY contact the committee members and urge them to support HB2315.

THINGS ARE MOVING FAST SO WE MUST BE AGILE AND MOVE QUICKLY.

Army of more than 1,000 Central Americans fleeing violence and unrest march unchallenged through Mexico towards the US border

By MARLENE LENTHANG FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

1,200 migrants from Central America headed on foot to the US on Sunday
80 per cent of the migrants hail from Honduras, where there has been political unrest and gang activity
The trek is organized by Pueblos Sin Fronteras, meaning People Without Borders
Migrants sleep on the floor of town plazas, eat charity meals by local churches, and ride on the top of dangerous freight trains during the month-long trip
The group is currently trekking through Mexico

An army of a thousand migrants from Central America are marching through Mexico to the US where they hope to get in by any means - legal or not.

The massive flood of migrants hail mostly from Honduras, where the country has become rife with gang violence and political unrest.

The journey began on Sunday March 25 when 1,200 men, women and children gathered together to cross immigration checkpoints with a organization called Pueblos Sin Fronteras, meaning People Without Borders, according to BuzzFeed News.

And the number is only growing as migrants walk to the border in 90-degree heat, sleep on the floor of town plazas, and get by on charity meals by locals and churches.

So far no one in Mexico has tried to stop them.
