Ohio Bill Bans All Abortions, Declares Unborn Babies as People Under Law

A new bill in the Ohio legislature would ban all abortions in the state by recognizing unborn babies as people protected under the law.
Sponsored by state Reps. Ron Hood and Nino Vitale, Ohio House Bill 565 would prohibit all abortions in Ohio, ABC 6 News reports.
"The goal of this bill is to first of all continue to get the word out that life does begin at conception and move the debate in that direction, and to protect unborn Ohioans from being aborted," Hood said, according to The Hill.
"We make it very clear in the state of Ohio we consider the unborn child a person just like you, me or any other person that has a right to life," he continued.
Abortion activists with NARAL quickly blasted the legislation, claiming it is unconstitutional.
"Anti-choice extremists from the Ohio Statehouse to the White House are lining up their dominoes to topple Roe v. Wade and punish those who seek or provide abortion care," said Kellie Copeland, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio executive director, in a statement.
According to The Hill, the bill does not include exceptions to save the life of the mother, and would make abortion a crime.
Abortion groups have succeeded in overturning similar laws in court. In 2012, the Oklahoma Supreme Court struck down a similar personhood bill as unconstitutional because it recognized unborn babies as human beings who deserve the right to life.
Though these lawmakers have good intentions to save unborn babies' lives, personhood legislation, even if upheld in court, may not make abortions illegal. When considering a Missouri statute in 1989, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist ruled that the personhood statute was nothing more than a statement of position that had no bearing on banning abortions or even limiting them in any way.
The state of Missouri had approved a statute saying, "the life of each human being begins at conception" and "unborn children have protectable interests in life, health, and well-being." The statute required that all Missouri state laws be interpreted to provide unborn children with rights equal to those enjoyed by other persons.
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri struck down that provision and the abortion limits, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit affirmed and ruled they violated Roe.

New York Assembly Passes Bill Allowing Shooting Babies Through the Heart With Poison to Kill Them

STEVEN ERTELT MAR 25, 2015 | 5:05PM ALBANY, NY
The New York state Assembly proved that promoting the best interest of women apparently includes pushing late-term abortions.
For years, the state legislature has been embroiled in a battle over a package of bills designed to push the interests of women. The bills have been held up in part because it includes a measure that would promote late-term abortions in the Empire State. Despite strenuous support from pro-abortion Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the legislature has refused to pass the package of bills because of the abortion measure.
The abortion bill would allow an abortion procedure that has abortionists shooting poison through the hearts of unborn children to kill them.
Now, the state Assembly has approved part of the package of bills - specifically the abortion promotion measure Governor Cuomo strenuously supports.
Today in a vote of 94-49 the New York State Assembly approved passage of AB 6221, the extreme stand-alone 10th point from the previously packaged 10-point Women's Equality Act, which would expand third-trimester abortions and allow non-doctors to perform abortions. Since 2013, abortion advocates have been holding the Women's Equality Act hostage to this single dangerous bill, refusing to break the 10-point bill up. This session, however, the will of the voters was finally heard, and the stand-alone bills have been considered.
"Expanding cruel and brutal third-trimester abortions has long been a goal of the anti-life lobby who never met an abortion they didn't like," said Lori Kehoe, New York State Right to Life executive director. "With no regard for the fully developed unborn baby who is violently dismembered, or otherwise killed, the New York State Assembly once again put the abortion lobby above New York State women and their children."
AB 6221, sponsored by Assemblywoman Glick, would change existing New York State law, which currently allows for abortion in the third trimester when the mother's life is in danger, to allow abortion on-demand throughout all nine months. The law would be changed to allow abortion for any reason deemed "relevant to the well-being of the patient" including physical, emotional, psychological, and familial factors, and the mother's age.

Vice President Mike Pence: "I Truly Believe" Abortion Will be Abolished "in Our Time"
MICAIAH BILGER FEB 28, 2018 | 11:11AM WASHINGTON, DC
With hard work and perseverance, abortion will be abolished "in our time," Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday.
Pence encouraged pro-life advocates during the 2018 National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Tennessee. He was a keynote speaker at a luncheon organized by Susan B. Anthony List and Life Issues Institute, which recently merged.
"I truly do believe, if all of us do all that we can, that we will once again, in our time, restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law. But we have to do the work," Pence said, according to Newsweek.
He said the passion and love demonstrated by young pro-life advocates brings him hope for the future.
"I mean, for all the progress since 1973, the resilience of this movement proceeding out of the heart of a compassionate nation, I just know in my heart of hearts that this will be the generation that restores life in America," he said.
In contrast, he said abortion activists have become increasingly radical. They have abandoned moderates who oppose late-term abortions and taxpayer-funded abortions, and are openly embracing abortion on demand. Pence mentioned the 20-week abortion ban as evidence; it narrowly failed in the U.S. Senate after pro-abortion Democrats and two pro-abortion Republicans rejected the moderate abortion limit.

Mississippi Governor Signs Pro-Life Bill Banning Abortions After 15 Weeks
STEVEN ERTELT MAR 19, 2018 | 6:39PM JACKSON, MS
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant today signed a bill to protect unborn babies and moms from abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Bryant hopes to make his state "the safest place in America" for unborn babies by supporting a bill to ban abortions after 15 weeks.
State House Bill 1510, signed into law, would create the earliest ban on abortion in any state in the U.S. by pushing back Mississippi's current limit by 5 weeks. The bill would prohibit abortions after 15 weeks except when there are risks to the life or physical health of the mother, or fatal fetal anomalies. The law takes effect immediately. Previous Mississippi law banned abortion at 20 weeks after conception, similar to limits in 17 other states.
"As I have repeatedly said, I want Mississippi to be the safest place in America for an unborn child," Bryant said, according to a Mississippi Today article. "House Bill 1510 will help us achieve that goal."
