Why pro-Israel America must come together to stand with Israel in Nashville

Ramsey Event Center in Franklin to Host Israel Summit

May 14, 2024 Kaitlin Housler

The Ramsey Event Center in Franklin will hold the 2024 Israel Summit next week after the event’s original venue, the Sonesta Nashville Airport Hotel, broke its contractual obligation to host the summit.

“God is doing amazing things in Tennessee, and we are even more excited about the upcoming Israel Summit,” two of the summit’s sponsors, HaYovel and The Israel Guys, announced Tuesday. “Dave Ramsey stepped in TODAY and offered his state-of-the-art event center for the Israel Summit!”

The Ramsey Event Center is owned by financial advisor and radio host Dave Ramsey, who is also the founder and CEO of the company Ramsey Solutions.

“Ramsey Solutions is proud to stand beside our friends from Israel by providing them a safe place to hold their event as our gift to them,” Ramsey said in a statement.

With Ramsey’s last minute offer to host the Israel Summit, which is a “gathering of pro-Israel advocates affirming Israel’s unconditional sovereignty over their entire land,” the event is still scheduled to be held on May 20-22.

The first annual event was originally planned to be held at the Sonesta Hotel in Nashville until leadership said it was dropping its contract to host the event, citing “threatening” calls and messages.

Organizers of the summit are urging event attendees to make new travel and hospitality arrangements for the event, as the Ramsey Event Center is approximately 27 miles from the Sonesta Hotel and the Nashville International Airport.

Before Ramsey’s invitation to host the summit in Franklin, First Liberty Institute – which represents HaYovel – sent a letter to the general manager at the Sonesta Hotel advising that the hotel’s decision to drop its contract to host the summit is “unlawful religious discrimination in a place of public accommodation.”

“HaYovel respectfully requests you fulfill your contractual obligations as agreed and provide HaYovel express written affirmation that you will do so. Failure to provide the written affirmation and fulfill the Contract may result in legal action against the Sonesta and all other responsible parties,” the letter, sent by Hirram Sasser, the executive general counsel for First Liberty Institute, said.

Pro-Hamas Thugs Force Nashville Hotel to Cancel Pro-Israel Jewish-Christian Event

May 12, 2024

Last week, pro-Hamas thugs began calling the Sonesta Hotel in Nashville, TN, threatening them with violence if they did not cancel their contract with HaYovel to host a pro-Israel conference. The Israel Summit is scheduled for May 20th-22nd as a peaceful gathering intended to educate Christians on fighting anti-semitism and on their biblical connection with the Holy Land.

On May 10th, after speaking with local police, the hotel leadership contacted HaYovel, notifying them they were dropping their contract. The police were concerned that the hotel, their guests, local businesses, and attendees to the Israel Summit would be in physical danger due to the threatening nature of the calls and messages they received.

As the organizer of this pro-Israel event, and with less than 10 days before the summit, HaYovel is concerned that canceling the venue proves who is in control in the United States. Unfortunately, freedom of speech and religious freedom are no longer protected American values. Meanwhile, violent actions, bullying, and hate speech are left unchecked. Now more than ever, it is important to register for The Israel Summit.

HaYovel released a media statement expressing their intent to persevere in their support for Israel despite the aggression and adversity.

“We will move forward with this event at a different venue and show these thugs that they will not be rewarded for their unconstitutional, hateful actions. Now, more than ever, it is important that America stands unconditionally with Israel and that we publicly show that we cannot be intimidated by pro-Hamas thugs.”

The Israel Summit is touted as  “the first annual gathering of pro-Israel supporters who unconditionally support Israel’s right to be sovereign in the entirety of the land of Israel, including Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and the Gaza Strip.”

Speakers include Member of Knesset Ohad Tal, Former U.S. Congresswoman Micelle Bachmann, singer Yair Levi, President / CEO of the NRB Troy Miller, Rabbis Jeremy Gimpel and Ari Abramowitz from the Land of Israel Network, founder of Hayovel Tommy Waller, CEO of Israel365 Rabbi Tuly Weisz, Intl. Spokesperson for Hebron Yishai Fleisher, Journalist Caroline Glick, and Julie Sironi of Eagle Mountain International Church.

Nashville Hotel Caves To Palestinian Activists, Shuts Down Pro-Israel Conference A Week Before Event

by Gary Leff on May 14, 2024

The Sonesta Nashville Airport Hotel is under scrutiny after canceling a planned pro-Israel summit, because of threats by Palestinian activists. The event, organized by Christian ministry HaYovel, was scheduled for May 20-22 and expected to attract approximately 500 attendees, with 400 having booked rooms at the hotel.

Speakers were set to include former U.S. Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, Israeli journalist Caroline Glick, and a member of Israel’s Knesset.

Eight days before the start of the event, the hotel cancelled the event citing their contract’s force majeure clause. The actual event contact hasn’t been released to evaluate that, but the property said they had ‘security concerns’ given the threatening calls and messages they received from Palestinian activists. The event host argues that this is unlawful religious discrimination (in this case, against Christians) and that security measures in place for the event mitigated the perceived risks.

Palestine Hurra Collective Nashville called for people to inundate the hotel with calls for cancellation of the event because, they say, it supports “genocidal racists” (Israel).

There are two separate issues here.

  1. contractual obligations of the hotel and whether those are vitiated by a campaign of opposition

  2. what the ethical stance of a hotel ought to be regarding events held on its premises.

It seems like the worst possible outcome to offer a heckler’s veto – signaling that rather than punishing the making of threats, it’s an effective tool to silence speech with which you disagree.

Late Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson stood strongly that hotels shouldn’t make determinations about which points of view are expressed in their conference rooms, including for viewpoints that leaders of chains personally loathed.

Lawsuit threatened after Nashville hotel pulls plug on pro-Israel Christian gathering

By Mark A. Kellner - The Washington Times - Monday, May 13, 2024

Attorneys representing pro-Israel Christian group HaYovel said Monday that a hotel near the Nashville International Airport canceled a meeting contract in violation of federal and Tennessee civil rights laws.

First Liberty Institute, a nonprofit law firm in Plano, Texas, told Sonesta Nashville Airport hotel general manager Troy Carver in a letter that legal action could follow if the hotel doesn’t reverse course.

“The baselessness of your invocation of force majeure to breach the Contract bears the unmistakable and distinctly unpleasant odor of … religious discrimination,” Hiram Sasser, the group’s executive general counsel, wrote. “Whether your cancellation of the Summit was carried out due to your own hostility toward HaYovel’s beliefs or serve[d] as a heckler’s veto for others, the result is the same. You have denied HaYovel a public accommodation due to its religious beliefs.”

The hotel agreed in January to host a three-day late May meeting for HaYovel, an American nonprofit. Hotel management abruptly pulled out on Friday, citing security concerns after what it told the charity was a flood of protest calls.

Speakers including former congresswoman Michelle Bachman, Israeli journalist Caroline Glick and Ohad Tal, a member of Israel’s Knesset, are among those confirmed for the HaYovel conference.

In its demand letter to Mr. Carver, Mr. Sasser says the hotel violated Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Tennessee Human Rights Act, both of which cover public accommodations.

“Failure to provide the written affirmation and fulfill the Contract may result in legal action against the Sonesta and all other responsible parties,” he wrote.

Why pro-Israel America must come together to stand with Israel in Nashville

The Israel Summit is set to be hosted in Nashville, TN, May 20th-22nd, at the Sonesta Hotel. To date, we have nearly 450 attendees registered for this historic event, and our speakers from Israel and our entire staff could not be more excited to bring the truth and beauty of Israel to the Bible Belt.

On Friday, May 10th, the Sonesta Hotel, where many of our attendees were registered to stay, and where all of the sessions, concert and gala dinner were to be held for the Summit, called our leadership to say that they had decided to cancel our contract. After having come under pressure from pro-Hamas and pro-Palestinian groups, they said that they no longer felt that it would be safe to host our event at their hotel.

The good news is.....the Israel Summit has NOT been canceled! We are moving forward with this historic conference, possibly at a new venue, but we will not allow those who hate Israel and the Jewish people in America to stop us from gathering.

Now, more than ever, it is vitally important that pro-Israel America come together in Nashville, TN to unite publicly with Israel and the Jewish people.
