Kansas Attorney General wins preliminary injunction for Title IX transgender regulations

Officials said Kansas Attorney General Kobach personally argued the case on June 20.
“We have had many wins in court, but to me, this is the biggest one yet. It protects girls and women across the country from having their privacy rights and safety violated in bathrooms and locker rooms and from having their freedom of speech violated if they say there are only two sexes,” Kobach said.
Officials with the Kansas Attorney General said the federal district court injunction will have a sweeping effect, prohibiting the implementation of Biden’s transgender regulations in the four plaintiff states. In addition, the injunction covers schools throughout the entire country via the plaintiff organizations. The private organizations have members in all 50 states.
“The Department of Education’s reinterpretation of Title IX to place gender identity on equal footing with (or in some instances arguably stronger footing than) biological sex would subvert Congress’ goals of protecting biological women in education,” Broomes wrote in the order. “The Final Rule would, among other things, require schools to subordinate the fears, concerns, and privacy interests of biological women to the desires of transgender biological men to shower, dress, and share restroom facilities with their female peers.”

Financial "sextortion" schemes have surged in recent years with offenders appearing to primarily target teenage boys through Instagram and other social media platforms, threatening victims with compromising imagery in exchange for cash, a new report found.
The report, released jointly by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and technology nonprofit Thorn on Monday, analyzed more than 15 million reports made to the NCMEC's hotline from 2020 to 2023. It detailed dangerous trends in sextortion, including financial sextortion, which the NCMEC called a "growing crisis impacting children around the world."
The report found that sextortion incidents have significantly climbed in recent years with reports of online enticement increasing by 82% from 2021 to 2022 when the NCMEC's hotline received over 80,500 reports. The number of incidents continued to grow in the last year at an average of 812 reports per week, according to data analyzed between August 2022 and August 2023.
The report defines sextortion as "threatening to expose sexual images of someone if they don’t yield to demands." And while sextortion schemes are nothing new, the report found a rising trend in financial sextortion that appears to target boys and involves demands for money.
In 2023 alone, NCMEC said it received more than 26,700 reports of financial sextortion.
"Financial sextortion represents a grave and growing threat to children, especially teenage boys," Julie Cordua, CEO of Thorn, said in a statement. "Unlike traditional forms of sextortion, these perpetrators demand money, leveraging fear and the threat of sharing intimate images to extort their victims before they have time to seek support."
Reports frequently include the use of 'catfishing'
Historically, girls have been the most frequent targets of child sextortion schemes, according to the report. These schemes often involved demands that are "sexual or relational in nature," such as demands for intimate imagery, engaging in sexual acts, or being in a romantic relationship, the report said.
But over the last several years, concerns over a "unique" form of sextortion have increased, according to the report. Financial sextortion deviates from sexual or relational demands and instead involves demandsspecifically for money.
The report found that a majority of victims of financial sextortion incidents that were submitted to the NCMEC were teenage boys and 90% were between the ages of 14 and 17.
"These reports most often include the use of 'catfishing' — in this case, a perpetrator impersonating another young person — to manipulate a teenage boy into sharing sexual images or videos of himself," the report states. "That perpetrator then threatens to share that imagery with family, friends, or followers unless they are paid."
Some cases have also involved the use of deepfakes, in which victims have reported perpetrators using artificial intelligence-generated images against them, according to the report.
Interactions between the victims and perpetrators are also "often transactional," as incidents can quickly escalate from initial contact with the victim to payment in 24 hours or sooner, Thorn said in a news release.
"Sextortion can be a high-stress situation for children who may fear reporting the incident or seeking help, but it's important to remember that the threats are scripted to intimidate, silence, and isolate their victims," Cordua said. "Paying the perpetrator can lead to continued harassment. The best course of action in these situations is to not pay, to report the sextortion to NCMEC, law enforcement, and the platform where it occurred, and block the offender."

WASHINGTON — Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, became the first sitting Democrat in Congress to call for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, citing his poor debate performance and the fact that he “has trailed Donald Trump” all year in surveys.
“Our overriding consideration must be who has the best hope of saving our democracy from an authoritarian takeover by a criminal and his gang. Too much is at stake to risk a Trump victory—too great a risk to assume that what could not be turned around in a year, what was not turned around in the debate, can be turned around now," Doggett said in a statement Tuesday. "President Biden saved our democracy by delivering us from Trump in 2020. He must not deliver us to Trump in 2024."
While numerous Democrats have privately expressed concerns or suggested anonymously that Biden leave the race, Doggett, who is 77, is the first lawmaker to say it openly. He represents a blue district based in Austin and has served in Congress since 1995.
“I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson," he continued. "Under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw. President Biden should do the same.”
“I am hopeful that he will make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw. I respectfully call on him to do so,” he said.
Nearly 100 SROs to graduate from Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy this year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy is providing free training for school resource officers across the state, and 96 cadets will have graduated from the program this year by the end of June.
Tennessee’s Enhanced School Safety Work Group, which is made up of several state agencies, came up with the idea for the SRO training program after the Uvalde school shooting in 2022.
“We had an advanced school last year. That was sort of dipping our toes in the water of SRO training,” William ‘Chip’ Kain, the executive director of TLETA said. “This year we were able to add a basic SRO training school onto that.”
According to Tennessee law, SROs are required to undergo 40 hours of basic school safety training and 16 hours of annual training on top of the training needed to become a law enforcement officer.
Thanks to $24 million in state-appropriated funds, the basic SRO training at TLETA is free for law enforcement agencies that don’t have a training facility or academy of their own.
“I have the freedom to be able to provide this training and not have to worry about what it’s costing our academy to put it on so that SROs have the very basic skills when they leave here to be able to do their job effectively,” Kain said. “It is one of the most complex jobs in law enforcement.”
Masked Activists Violently Attack Jews at North Carolina Public Library

Three pro-Israel attendees of a public event titled “Strategic Lessons From the Palestinian Resistance” reported being attacked and forcibly dragged out by anti-Israel activists also in attendance at the West Asheville Library in North Carolina on Saturday.
The event, hosed by Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair, was one of multiple anti-Israel sessions that took place during a three-day “anarchist” book fair.
The Algemeiner interviewed David Moritz, a 54-year-old son of Holocaust survivors, and Monica Buckley, who is 48 and identifies as queer. Both are Jewish and attended the event with 80-year-old Bob Campbell, who was also interviewed for this story.
Approximately 60-80 anti-Israel activists were in attendance at the event held in a public library. Almost all were masked, with the exception of one activist who is reported to regularly attend events in the area unmasked.
According to Moritz, Buckley, and Campbell, the event celebrated and glorified Hamas’ massacre across southern Israel on Oct. 7, when the Palestinian terrorist group killed 1,200 people and kidnapped about 250 others as hostages.
The three pro-Israel attendees were seated quietly along a far wall. Anti-Israel activists asked them to put on masks, which they did. Interestingly, no one asked a presenter to stop vaping as he spoke at the indoor, public library.
At one point, according to video circulated on social media, a presenter stopped the event, drawing everyone’s attention to the three pro-Israel attendees.
The others in attendance expressed concern that their public event was being live streamed by “Zionists.” The presenter immediately joked about the possibility of a “murder here.”
The attendees and anti-Israel activists were then asked by a presenter, “I’ll let you guys decide. What do you want to do?” The pro-Israel attendees were immediately told to leave with multiple people yelling out “bye.”
After further discussion, the presenter asked for a show of hands on how to proceed. An attendee said, “They are not f—king welcome here.” Someone else was heard saying, “I don’t trust them.”
At about two minutes and 20 seconds into the video, activists began encircling Moritz, Buckley, and Campbell.
While about 80 percent of the attendees were women, a group of large men stood over the pro-Israel attendees and loudly clapped their hands while yelling “Free Palestine.” The video then goes black while the audio continues with a clear struggle being heard.
According to video and interviews with those targeted at the event, an activist grabbed Buckley’s phone, instigating mob violence against the three pro-Israel attendees. She was reportedly punched, kicked, and stomped. Her phone was stolen and later found, having been thrown on nearby property.
All three pro-Israel attendees reported being dragged out of the library.
Campbell, an 80-year-old military veteran with cancer and a stent in his heart, was stomped, assaulted, and pushed to the ground, a footprint clearly visible on his shorts. His phone was also taken and later found in a trashcan. Local police encouraged Campbell to see a doctor.
“My arms are chewed up,” Campbell told The Algemeiner. For medical treatment he went to a US Veterans Affairs facility, which found he had “severe contusions.”
