We have been talking about the importance of SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS this year and encouraging voters to pay attention and participate.
Well, thankfully many did and some impressive changes were made!!
Is there much more work that needs to be done? YES! However, the effort has begun in earnest.
Here are a few comments:
Kay Brooks We (Sumner Co) got three genuine conservative dad's on ours. Our 4th candidate, a write in, lost to the incumbent (who is a local mayor's mother). That was a hard loss. But the board will no longer be a mute rubber stamp for the superintendent. That's a big win. We did even better w/the County Commission and took back the mayoral office. It is sweet!
Katherine Grant Hudgins Here in Rutherford, we got rid of our Superintendent a few months ago and as of August 4th we now have a conservative majority
Joseph A Padilla Wilson County Republicans swept all four openings on the school board! God is Great!!!
Kevin J. Powers Fayette County-we elected two Republicans...one to his own four year term after serving the last few months and the other defeated the incumbent who is also the D chair of her party. Progress being made! And almost got a third on in a write in campaign for an unexpired term no one pulled a petition for
Lucinda Sheth Roane County: 2 districts up for votes. I had no opponent so the incumbent remains. District 3/4: one quiet rubber-stamper replaced by a Godly woman. It is a start. Many are actively watching. We had moms speak our months ago about LGBTQ+crap in a Middle School library. SB was pushed to act and make a policy. They took the books off the shelves, but they are back again, kind of hidden away now. More to come on this as many are ready to demand action be taken...harsh action
Phyllis Stamps Bracken We gained one male and lost one woman. Had three districts that was overwhelming democrat everyday. However the Madison County Republican Women and candidate worked extremely to win.
Adrienne Figueroa Metro Nashville Public Schools had 4 seats voted on. The one incumbent who happens to have been a D but also the ONLY board member speaking up for kids and parents all through covid crap to get kids back in person, back in sports, and with a mask option ran this time as an Independent and was booted by a leftist. Another D turned I who I supported lost her race in D8. The other two M4L supporting R's lost as well. So every single one of the 9 school board seats is held by the left now. I'm afraid there's no saving Nashville schools now. Teachers are leaving in droves. I guess the people have spoken. They're fine with the indoctrination happening, divisive rhetoric around race, pornography accessible to their children in libraries, safety issues in their schools, budget secrecy and single bid contracts that line the pockets of political allies. It's bad
I hope (most) of these comments encourage you as schools start all over the state. We CAN make a difference, but it takes attention and hard work.
STEP NUMBER TWO:
Regardless of the make-up of your school board, attend the meetings. Get to know the members, how the board operates, notice who the leaders are, make notes for possible action and for the next election cycle.
Get to know the members, be polite and cordial. Request to address the board only when appropriate, only when armed with good research, accurate information and then still be polite.
Parents, you won't know what the problems are if you don't really pay attention to what YOUR STUDENT is being exposed to and being required to respond to.
Parents Must Opt In To Allow Children Access To Mature Reading List After Parents Successfully Lobby School Board
Parents registering their rising 9th graders for the school year in Wilson County found that they were required to opt-in if they want to allow their children to access sexually explicit material in the school library deemed to be mature reading. The default setting in Skyward, Wilson County Schools' administration software, is to not allow students to access what has been compiled in the Mature Reader's List.
The Wilson County chapter of Moms for Liberty began bringing up the issue of pornographic and inappropriate sexual content in school library books last November. Since that time, Wilson County Schools has updated policies to include library books as instructional materials which enables a formal review of books that may not be age-appropriate. The district also promised that they would develop a new procedure to allow parents to choose whether their child is allowed access to a "Mature Reading List" starting with the 2022-2023 school year.
While Moms for Liberty - Wilson County has not received a complete list of books currently on the Mature Reading List, they can confirm that the following books are on the list:
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson
Forever For a Year by BT Gottfred
A Court of Mist and Fury was reviewed by a committee in May, at the behest of Wilson County parents, along with three other books. Dr. Jennifer Cothran addressed the school board at their monthly meeting to communicate that the committee recommended no changes for Crank, Clockwork Princess or Monday's Not Coming but A Court of Mist and Fury and all other works in that series would be marked as mature reading.
Director of the Wilson County chapter of Moms for Liberty, Amanda Price said, "While I maintain that extreme sexually explicit material is not age-appropriate for any minor and has no place in public education, we are pleased that Wilson County Schools heard our concerns and created a way for parents to determine what is best for their child. It also protects the district from dreaded censorship lawsuits coming from those who believe children should be permitted open access to all content without consideration for age-appropriateness. I consider this a win for Liberty. If you are happy with this change, please take a moment to contact Dr. Cothran and Mr. Luttrell to thank them. There is no doubt they would appreciate the kind words as this was a major stress for everyone involved."
Price said that this solution came from Wilson County Schools leadership. "I presented a problem, and they listened and have been working to create a solution ever since."

Wauwatosa Proposes Sex Ed Curriculum for Kindergarteners
Aug. 5, 2022 Perspective by Dan O'Donnell
How young is too young to learn about gender identity and expression? Second grade? First grade? Not for the Wauwatosa School District which is proposing such lessons for kindergarten students in the upcoming school year.
The district sent a letter to parents and guardians this week informing them of proposed changes to its Human Growth and Development curriculum that include classes on gender identity, sexual orientation, and other sex-themed topics from kindergarten straight through to high school.
The series of five lessons for kindergarteners, who are typically five or six years old, starts innocuously enough with a discussion of students' family structures and helping them "identify different kinds of family structures." By Lesson 2, however, the children should be able to "understand gender role stereotypes and define gender."
To aid in this, teachers will read "Sparkle Boy," a 2017 children's book described on its Amazon page as "a sweet, heartwarming story about acceptance, respect, and the freedom to be yourself in a world where any gender expression should be celebrated."
By Lesson 3, kindergarteners will be able to "identify the medically accurate names of external body parts including the genitals." Teachers will implement the Understanding Our Bodies lesson plan, whose goal is to have students "be able to correctly identify at least three body parts of a female-assigned person, namely the nipples, vulva, and anus" and "at least three body parts of the male-assigned person, namely the nipples, penis and anus."
A Power Point presentation that accompanies this lesson even features drawings of a naked boy and girl with arrows pointing to the penis, nipples, vulva, and anus that the kindergarteners can use as a handy reference point.
Blount County 'Family Friendly' Pride Festival With Activities For Children: "I Cannot Believe This Is Happening Here."
The Tennessee Conservative [By Jason Vaughn] -
Last Saturday, July 30th, Blount Pride hosted a Pride Festival at the Jack Greene Park in Maryville, Tennessee that featured a Rainbow and Drag Queen story time for children, followed later by "educational and connection-building activities" led by a local high school teacher, according to Ari Baker who is on the Blount Pride steering committee.
The event was touted as a "big ol' party" and "family friendly" with activities for children and teens all day long.
Among other "child friendly" activities, attendees can make "encouragement cards" for the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs at local high schools in Blount County.
Several parents with their children gathered for the Rainbow and Drag Queen story time portion of the event.
FROM A CONCERNED GRANDFATHER -- Praise the Lord for such people paying close attention to what is available to children:
I saw " Slumberkins Kin and Board Book" on an Amazon Wish List . I saw it is a " Social Emotional Learning Tool" so I did some research. The material, at first glance, looks very good, and in fact I began to wonder if the CRT connection was really there.....and then I found it. Tucked away in their " Values" section "Equality", ( interesting they did not use the word "equity" ) they begin to speak of " oppression structures ...in the world". You can read it for yourself below...just in case you have not seen their site before.
