Stop Massachusetts From Banning Fossil Fuel

Stop Massachusetts From Allowing Cities to Ban Fossil Fuel

As written, H4035 would allow the City of Somerville to force new construction and major renovation of homes to be fossil-fuel-free. Giving them the authority to withhold permits that do not comply with the radical standards that the state would let them create.

Additionally, H4036 would allow the Town of Brookline to set illegal local energy efficiency standards for appliances and equipment, like a furnace and water heater.  Potentially forcing the electrification of new homes, which would drive up costs and waste taxpayer dollars with illegal policy adoption.

Allowing even one city to adopt these clear violations would only be the start for the rest of the state! H4035 and H4036 are clear violations of the Energy Policy Conservation Act (EPCA) that preempts local appliance regulations, and we need your help to let them know that.
