HB 999 / SB 1226 Should Follow Facts, Not Fear, on A2L Refrigerants
Florida lawmakers are promoting HB 999 / SB 1226 based on false claims that newer A2L refrigerants such as R-454B are unsafe and pose risks to homeowners, businesses, and agriculture. These claims are misleading and risk creating unnecessary fear among consumers.

Over a decade of industry testing and examination by experts, including the contractor community have proven A2Ls to be a safe refrigerant when handled properly. Labeling these refrigerants as “dangerous” undermines public confidence and puts contractors in the position of having to reassure customers against state-driven misinformation.

The transition to A2Ls is part of the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, signed into law by President Trump, to strengthen U.S. manufacturing and reduce reliance on imported refrigerants. R-454B is an American-patented refrigerant, while R-410A is largely imported. Florida should not advance policies that confuse homeowners, misrepresent proven technologies, or undermine a national transition that is already working.

Contractors need consumer trust to do their jobs effectively. Take action today and urge lawmakers to oppose HB 999 / SB 1226 and stop spreading misinformation about safe, approved refrigerants.
