Stop Washington State from Allowing Flammable A3 Refrigerants in Residential HVAC Equipment

HARDI needs your help opposing Washington’s proposed amendments to the 2024 International Mechanical Code (IMC). These amendments would create alternate compliance pathways for residential HVACR equipment utilizing highly flammable Group A3 refrigerants through the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) Qualified Product Lists and/or IEC-based standards in place of the UL 60335-2-40 standard currently referenced by the code.

HARDI is concerned these proposals would create state-specific deviations from established U.S. safety standards and listing practices while allowing pathways for residential applications that are not currently addressed within the existing UL and ASHRAE safety framework. This would create additional compliance and safety uncertainty for distributors, contractors, and code officials responsible for product approval, installation, and enforcement.
