Last month, President Donald Trump nominated James Macy, the current director for the Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs, to serve on the National Labor Relations Board. 

Because the NLRB requires at least one member of each party, President Trump also renominated the sole Democratic member of the board, David Prouty, for another five-year term. The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) will hold a hearing June 10 to consider the two nominees.

Macy could be the deciding vote on many pending decisions before the board, which has a backlog of hundreds of cases after being without a quorum for most of 2025. Additionally, longstanding NLRB practice requires three votes to overturn a previous decision, meaning that the board’s controversial decisions during the Biden administration still stand despite its current Republican majority. 

IEC is urging members to contact their senators – especially if they serve on the Senate HELP Committee – and ask them to confirm both Macy and Prouty so the NLRB can reverse its radical decisions made during the last presidential term that harm workers and businesses.
