We need legislation to protect kids from harmful treatments
In a 2-1 ruling issued Monday,  August 26th a three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit decided to allow a Florida law passed in May 2023 restricting use of Medicaid funds for puberty blockers, opposite-sex hormones, and body-mutilating surgeries, including elective double mastectomies and chemical and surgical castration to take effect as litigation continues. The state rule came after the agency had announced the findings of a review in June 2022, in which they concluded that such procedures were “not consistent with generally accepted professional medical standards and are experimental and investigational with the potential for harmful long-term effects.”

As reported by the Christian Post, the Florida agency reported findings that "evidence showing benefits from hormone replacement therapies for gender dysphoria is very weak … Scientific studies do not show that the use of puberty blockers improves mental health.”

Florida is not alone. Many states are wrestling with legislation and funding as it pertains to choosing to protect children or not from sexual therapies and surgical treatments that are permanent in effect. You can weigh in on this issue with your legislators. They need to know that most  Americans consider these radical treatments to be extreme and harmful.

I am concerned about the protection of children in our state from radical and hormone therapies and permanent transgender surgery. These treatments are extreme, painful, and often regretted. I urge you to protect kids in our state, and not to use state funds for the coverage of these radical medical experiments. Scientific studies show that the use of these treatments is not effective in improving the mental health for those suffering from gender dysphoria. I am praying for you as you consider your legacy of legislation on this issue.
