NADA Guidance for Reporting 2023 EV Sales

NADA reported that the IRS has provided guidance for encrypting 2023 Clean Vehicle Sales reports.  Dealers who follow the encryption guidance can safely report 2023 EV sales to the IRS.  Information about EV reporting for 2023 sales is below:

What’s new: The IRS provided updated guidance to address privacy and data security concerns associated with the submission of 2023 clean vehicle sales reports, which NADA flagged for members earlier this week.

What’s next: Given this new guidance, NADA now recommends that dealers restart submitting 2023 sales reports. As explained in guidance provided earlier this week by the IRS, dealer reports for 2023 clean vehicle sales are to be submitted via email to IRS.Clean.Vehicles.Seller.Reporting@IRS.gov. The reports are due by January 31, 2024.

Today’s updated guidance provides instructions for dealers on how to encrypt documents containing sensitive information when submitting their 2023 reports. Dealers may access the instructions under the “Sending us email” section on the IRS Clean Vehicle Credit Seller or Dealer Requirements webpage.
