Congress Back Home for July 4 Recess - Encourage Members of Congress to Include FET Suspension in Next Economic Relief Bill

While your federal lawmakers are back home for the July 4 recess, call and urge them to suspend the 12% federal excise tax (FET) on heavy-duty trucks through the end of 2021. The issue picked up steam this week with several state chambers of commerce and dealer associations signing a letter, with a total of 172 organizations, in support.
While ATD continues to focus FET suspension efforts on the next economic recovery package, on June 29, Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) offered an FET suspension amendment during Rules Committee debate on H.R. 2, the House Democratic infrastructure bill, the House Democratic infrastructure bill. As expected, the Republican amendment was not accepted on a procedural vote. The FET discussion in the Committee created positive visibility for suspending the tax.
Twenty Democrats have signed Rep. Chris Pappas' (D-N.H.) House Democrat-only letter to Democratic leaders urging that FET suspension be included in an economic stimulus bill expected next month. If your Member of Congress is a House Democrat, please ask them to sign the Pappas FET suspension letter. A sample constituent letter for dealers is available here.

IADA is looking for nominations for the 2021 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award. The deadline is early August.
To be considered for selection, a nominee must:
- Be a franchised new-car/truck dealer;
- Be a member of NADA;
- Be a member of a state dealer association;
- Be the operating head of the dealership as designated in the franchise paragraph of the factory agreement for a minimum of one year;
- Have a presence in the dealership offices during at least 60% of business hours;
- Have at least a five-year record of active participation in affairs of the nominee's state or local dealer association; and
- Agree to be available for participation in Dealer of the Year activities at NADA's 2021 Convention in New Orleans.
The nomination form is attached. Once nominations are received, they will be reviewed and a dealer will be chosen by IADA's Nominating Committee. Please provide as much detail as possible. Thank you for your involvement in recognizing a deserving Illinois dealer. |
