IADA VISITS ILLINOIS CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION IN WASHINGTON, DC

Last week, IADA Vice-Chairman David Parkhill, Champaign; NADA Director, Jamie Auffenberg, Shiloh; IADA Secretary/Treasurer, John Alfirevich, Tinley Park; IADA Executive Director, Joe McMahon and IADA Legal Counsel, Larry Doll attended the NADA Washington Conference.

Thank you to the Illinois Congressional delegation members who met with us on our trip to D.C. Cong. Mike Bost, Murphysboro (R-12); Cong. Darin LaHood, Dunlap (R-18); Cong. Mary Miller, Effingham (R-15); and Cong. Rodney Davis, Taylorville (R-13).

Your Illinois dealer delegation joined hundreds of our counterparts from other states in Washington, D.C. to urge members of Congress to oppose the Federal Trade Commission's proposed advertising rules, which, if adopted, would add new layers of complexity and burdensome record-keeping requirements to all motor vehicle transactions; thanked them for their support of LIFO reform: and urged their support of legislation to deter catalytic converter theft.

The annual NADA Washington Conference allows dealers and trade association representatives to learn the latest about what's happening in the nation's capital and a day to "storm the Hill" to explain dealers' concerns about various issues.

NADA PROFESSIONAL SERIES FOR MANAGERS A BIG SUCCESS

IADA was excited to offer the NADA Professional Series right here in Illinois at our IADA office.  It has proven to be the most efficient and affordable way to offer this best-in-class training to dealership managers without having to fly to other parts of the country and spend extra nights in hotels.

Here's what they're saying:

  • Georgia's [the instructor's] attitude was great. Very knowledgeable and energetic
  • I really liked Georgia's [the instructor's] style of teaching.  She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.  She had great stories that helped to understand the information.  I would love to continue coming to this class and look forward to the leadership class with her! Thank you!

The Series covers all parts of your dealership:

  • Office Management
  • Parts Management
  • Sales Management
  • Service Management

With the success of our inaugural classes, we plan to continue hosting the series at our IADA office in the future.  If you have any questions about the class arrangement or content, feel free to give us or NADA a call. Click here for more detailed class information.

REVISIONS TO COMPANY POLICIES - HR QUESTION OF THE MONTH

Question

When we revise a company policy, can we just send the updated policy to our employees, or should we also have employees sign some type of acknowledgement form? If the latter, what do we do if an employee refuses to sign the acknowledgement form?

Answer

As best practice, employers should give employees an opportunity to review any revised policy and to ask questions about the policy's terms. Employees should sign and date a statement acknowledging receipt of the updated policy and agreeing to comply with it. The acknowledgement statement should make clear that the revised policy supersedes any prior ones. The employer should retain the signed acknowledgement form in each employee's respective personnel file so that there is a record of receipt and agreement to comply.  Read more

IS PAY SHARE OR CREDIT CARD SURCHARGING RIGHT FOR YOUR DEALERSHIP?

The automotive industry has undeniably been shaken up over the last 24 months. Some businesses are booming, some are slowing down, but the one constant is change.

Likewise, there have been big changes in the realm of payment acceptance over the past decade. No more does the responsibility of fees need to rest solely on the shoulders of the merchant. In 2013, following a prolonged legal battle between merchants and credit card associations, a settlement was reached that allows merchants to pass a portion of fees incurred onto customers in the United States*.

Surcharges have been around for a long time. Oftentimes, they appear on hotel bills or when purchasing tickets for events. Gas stations in Michigan typically charge an additional 10 cents per gallon when customers pay with a credit card. Even fast-food restaurants have begun to utilize this option.
What does this mean for the automotive industry?  Read more
