IADA LEGISLATION WILL REDUCE SOS TITLE PROCESSING LATE FEES

IADA-sponsored legislation to reduce the Secretary of State's late filing of titles penalty structure takes effect April 1st.  We are continually looking for ways to assist dealers when utilizing our Association CVR program.  We are also asking them to allow our dealers to again make corrections within the CVR system up to 45 days, to reflect this revised filing structure.  Your support and participation in our programs directly helps us advocate on your behalf!  No other ERT vendors contribute to our IL dealership industry.

Public Act 102-845 will reduce late fees while extending the submission deadline.  Currently, SOS begins imposing late fees if a title application is received more than 30 days after the date of sale and the penalty amount increases incrementally based on when the title is received by their office.

Public Act 102-845 will extend the initial timeline for delinquent vehicle fees from 30 days to 45 days. This legislation will also establish the following reduced fee schedule based on when titles are received by the SOS office:

Rec'd by SOS (current)Late fee (current)Rec'd by SOS (April 1)Late fee (April 1)
30-60 days$2045-60 days$10
60-90 days$3560-90 days$20
90-120 days and 121+ days remain $65 & $100 respectively.
