Michigan: Help Stop Drunk Driving
Drunk driving remains a major problem. According to NHTSA in 2023 in Michigan, there were 286 drunk driving deaths. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help to advance legislation in Michigan to help stop drunk driving.

SB 580 allows for drunk drivers to use an ignition interlock as soon as possible after a conviction as opposed to waiting 45 days, keeping Michigan roadways safe from repeat drunk driving offenders.

Currently, these devices are required for all repeat offenders and first-time offenders with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .17 or greater. Ignition interlocks are one of the most effective countermeasures to stop impaired driving. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), ignition interlocks are 67 percent more effective in reducing repeat drunk driving offenses compared to license suspension alone.

On this page, please email your state lawmakers in support of this lifesaving legislation.
