Maryland: Support Jamari's Law
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help to advance Jamari’s Law (SB 66 and HB 873) introduced by Representative Senator West and Delegate Simmons to increase maximum penalities for impaired drivers who cause fatalities on Maryland roads.

What is Jamari’s Law? MADD strongly supports Jamari’s Law because it allows for increased sentences in fatal impaired driving crashes. Currently impaired drivers who cause a fatality only face a ten-year maximum sentence for a first offense and are eligible for parole after only serving 25% of the sentence. Jamari’s Law would increase this maximum to 20 years for first-time offenders and 30 years for repeat offenders and offers more flexibility to judges and prosecutors to impose meaningful consequences in the most serious cases and strengthens deterrence.

The problem of drunk driving is not going away. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 173 people were killed in drunk driving crashes in Maryland in 2023.
