In 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 24 people killed in drunk driving deaths representing 33 percent of all traffic deaths. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, laws like H 7489 and S 2970 reduce drunk driving deaths by 26%. Utilizing this information, AAA and MADD estimates that H 7489 and S 2970 will save six lives each year.
