Maine: Help stop impaired driving
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help to advance legislation in Maine to help stop drug-impaired driving. SP 915 by Senator Beebe-Center allows for the use of evidentiary oral fluid testing to help in the investigation of a drug-impaired driving offense.

How does SP 915 improve the drug-impaired driving law? SP 915 allows for oral fluid technology to be used in evidentiary testing to support the investigation of drug-impaired driving. The use of oral fluid evidentiary testing helps to determine which substance(s) are causing the impairment.

MADD and AAA put together a fact sheet on oral fluid testing that notes the importance of this countermeasure. Oral fluid is an effective specimen because it generally contains the active drug—a better indicator of recent drug use compared to urine, which primarily detects non-impairing metabolites that can persist for days or weeks.
