Tell Congress to Support Efforts to Address Workforce Shortages
School psychologists and communities across the country are being negatively affected by critical workforce shortages. This leads to unmanageable caseloads, the inability to provide comprehensive services to students, educators, and families, and burnout for many school psychologists. Shortages are also leaving too many students without access to the learning, social, and emotional supports they need during a youth mental health crisis.

The current national ratio (1:1065) is over double NASP’s recommendation of 1 school psychologist for every 500 students. Some states and districts have ratios exceeding 1:5000, or have no school psychologist at all, especially in rural and underserved communities. Our students deserve better, and so do we.

We urgently need to grow the school psychology workforce and increase access to comprehensive services. That is why we are calling on Congress to support funding for new competitions of the only two federal grants that support state and local efforts to address the shortage of school psychologists and other school-based mental health professionals in FY2025 and beyond.

Write to Congress NOW and tell them to support funding that increases access to school psychologists and supports students’ learning and well-being.
