Call to Action Alert: Protect Child Care Support for Working Families

LB926 makes major changes to Nebraska's cash assistance policies by shortening assistance to 36 months and eliminating provisions related to reimbursement for child care expenses and "extreme hardship" under the Welfare Reform Act.

Why it Matters:

  • Cuts support sooner: Families could lose assistance earlier, even when they are still working towards stability.
  • Removes Key Safeguards: Eliminating "extreme hardship" provisions can reduce flexibility for families facing serious crises.
  • Employment Barriers: Removing child care reimbursement support can create barriers for parents trying to work or undergo employment training.
