FIRST MINIMUM WAGE HIKE JULY 1
MAGNUSON-MOSS UPDATE
WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE MARKETPLACE?
NEW UST RESOURCES
NJGCA YOUNG PROFESSIONALS SUMMER MEETING
NJGCA MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
MINIMUM WAGE
I want to make sure our members are informed of the new minimum wage law, which will begin the phase-in process on July 1st. This first increase will bring the minimum wage to $10 per hour. It is very important that you make sure to inform your payroll company to make this change to be sure that you are in compliance. This will also bring overtime rates to $15 per hour (time and a half). We have beat this horse silly over the last few years, but now it is time to implement the new minimum wage rates. We will be sending more reminders each time the minimum wage is increased. Expect the next increase in January 2020. Reminders will be sent in December.
MAGNUSON-MOSS UPDATE
We overcame another hurdle in our effort to have the purchasers of new automobiles be notified by the car manufacturer that the federal Magnuson-Moss Act permits them to bring their vehicle to you for service and does not void the manufacturer's warranty. The manufacturers have been fighting us a lot harder than we anticipated. Now that this has passed both the Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee and the Senate Commerce Committee, our hope is that we can get this scheduled for a vote by the full Assembly and Senate. Of course, if this happens, we will need for Governor Murphy to sign it. I will keep you posted.
MARKETPLACE
For those of you that are following any geopolitical news, you already know that several tankers have been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and as recently as yesterday, rockets were launched upon oil fields in Iraq. Depending on continued attacks, there may be an effect on the price of crude oil. This is exactly what I mentioned last week, when I referred to the effect of any severe storms in the Gulf of Mexico. Any perception that oil supplies may be interrupted will cause a spike in prices in a marketplace that otherwise should be declining. Current events in the Middle East must be watched closely in order to determine prices in the coming weeks.
UST RESOURCES
We have a few updates on UST resources: We received a note from Mike Hollis at NJDEP that they have updated the NJDEP resources page and it includes the addition of slides from our last compliance seminar. Additionally, I want to thank Daniela Pava, our contact from our MBP Environmental Alliance, as she brought to our attention NJDEP's newly published annual remediation fees. This table includes information for fiscal year 2019 and 2020. As a reminder, NJGCA also compiled a UST resources page. We include step-by-step guidance documents and other helpful resources that we created ourselves to help our members, as well as those compiled from other agencies. We want our members to have easy access to as much information as possible to stay ahead of important changes and regulations that could affect your business. If you have an underground storage tank and have not yet visited this page, I highly encourage you to do so today!
YOUNG PROFESSIONALS
NJGCA's Young Professionals will be meeting again on July 11th from 6 to 8 PM at the Asbury Park Biergarten. I want to remind our members again that if you have young motivated people working in your shops and/or stations, or anticipate handing your business over to the next generation down the line, we hope they will be able to attend our event. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other people with similar interests and for us to learn what new ideas, technologies, and opportunities are coming down the line which could potentially further our businesses and the industry. If you know of someone who might be interested in attending, please send them our registration page to sign up! For any of our MBPs that would be interested in sponsoring, please email either Michelle or Eric at michelle@njgca.org or eric@njgca.org for more information.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
You all should have read in our April 2019 OTR and received emails about our membership drive. Please consider colleagues and competitors that you have a relationship with, and ask them to consider joining our cause here at NJGCA. After you speak to them, give us a call and let us know that you have spoken to them, and we will take it from there. The member with the most referrals that result in membership will win a $250 Visa gift card!
That's all for this week-

San Francisco Has Moved To Ban E-cigarettes. Juul Has A Backup Plan
The measure, if passed, would go into effect seven months after it is signed by the mayor. It would halt the sale of e-cigarettes in San Francisco's brick-and-mortar stores and bar the delivery of e-cigarettes bought online to San Francisco addresses until the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviews the safety of the products, which it has not yet done. . . Juul is collecting signatures for a ballot measure for the November election that would override the board's e-cigarette ban and allow the sale of vaping products to continue in the city.

World Needs To Embrace Hydrogen Challenge, Cut Costs: IEA
The world should take up the challenge to boost the use of hydrogen as a potentially emissions-free source of energy, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Friday in its first major report on the fuel. The cost of producing hydrogen from renewable energy could fall by 30 percent by 2030 and the fuel could reduce emissions in industries such as transport, chemicals and steel, the agency said, although it warned there were still major challenges.

1 Big Thing: A Crude Tug Of War
The weakening economy is carrying a lot of weight despite the spike in tensions from the U.S. blaming Iran for yesterday's violence near the Strait of Hormuz, which is the world's biggest oil choke point. Prices, which rose after the attacks, dipped Friday as the International Energy Agency cut its estimate for 2019 oil demand growth to 1.2 million barrels per day. They've since recovered some ground but are still down overall this week. Why it matters: The muted price response despite the tanker attacks is likely a sign of the faltering global economy.

Oil tankers attacked in Gulf of Oman, U.S. Navy Says
Two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman came under suspected attack early Thursday amid soaring tensions between the United States and Iran. A Japanese-owned ship was targeted just as Japan's prime minister, Shinzo Abe, wrapped up a high-stakes visit to Tehran to help cool hostilities in the region and potentially mediate U.S.-Iran talks. The attack appeared timed to undermine those efforts, which Abe had called "a major step forward toward securing peace and stability in this region," Japan's Kyodo news agency reported.
