COVERT VEHICLES FLUNKING INSPECTIONS
2019 MBP SURVEY
COVERT VEHICLES
VERY IMPORTANT: You should all know this and be able to recite this in your sleep. However, recently we have received far too many phone calls from shop owners who have been snagged by covert vehicles coming into their shops with defects that are inexcusable for you not to check. It is very important that you make sure that the "check engine light" is operable and that someone has not removed the bulb to keep it from illuminating. It is also important that you do a visual gas cap inspection. It seems technicians have gotten lazy and have ignored this inspection. The third issue is to make sure that you check that ALL catalytic converters that are supposed to be on the vehicle are, in fact, on the vehicle. These are fundamental and elementary parts of the process that you all should know if you want to keep your inspection license. The penalties are costly, suspensions and revocations are burdensome, and these overlooked items are extremely difficult for us to mount an argument for defense.
MBP SURVEY
You should have received an email with the annual MBP survey. I am asking that you take five minutes to complete this survey. It is extremely helpful to us here in order to determine which participants/vendors will be invited back to be included in the 2020 MBP program. It should be extremely clear to all of you the effort that we put in to making sure that those that provide you with products and services meet our standards of quality and integrity before you do business with them. No our efforts are not fool-proof; which is why we check back with you every year. This survey is simple to accomplish and can be completed with a few clicks of your mouse. Our automated system recognizes who has not responded, and will continue to send reminders to those of you who have not completed the survey. On a positive note, we have already received many responses from our members, and want to thank you for taking the time to help us out.
That's all for this week -

How Much Will NJ Really Make From Taxing Legal Weed?
How much money could New Jersey bring in if the state ever legalizes recreational marijuana? The question is difficult to answer, and states that have tried predicting legal weed revenue have been all over the place due to hazy data, according to a new study by The Pew Charitable Trusts. After a drawn-out, failed effort earlier this year to legalize adult-use cannabis in the Garden State, New Jersey political leaders said they would like to give the legislation one final shot before potentially shifting the question to voters in a 2020 ballot question.

A Hike In The Gas Tax? We'll Know By The End Of The Month
New Jersey motorists will have to wait until the end of the month to find out whether they face another hike in the gas tax. The state's top budget officials had until Thursday to crunch the latest gas-tax revenue figures as part of a required review that was part of an overhaul several years ago in the way New Jersey levies taxes on motor fuels to pay for road improvements. Treasury officials said the deadline was met, but they won't issue an official ruling on whether the current rate - 41.4 cents a gallon - needs to be changed until the end of the month. If deemed necessary, the adjustment would go into effect on Oct. 1.
