AASP Golf Outing

NJGCA was proud to support AASP-NJ (which represents body shops) at Knob Hill Golf Club in Manalapan at their 16th Annual Lou Scoras Memorial Golf Outing. We sponsored a hole there as a portion of the event proceeds went toward a collision industry scholarship fund. If NJGCA were to have a golf event next year would you be interested in playing? Email Joe at joe@njgca.org and let us know.

Enforcement Reminders

We have been hearing through the grapevine that allegedly, state and local authorities are going to begin more active enforcement of two of the more annoying laws that have been passed within the last few years that have largely gone unenforced so far. The first is that there will be an effort made to get local authorities to enforce the flavored vape ban in the state. As a reminder, all vaping products in New Jersey are illegal to sell if they have any flavor other than tobacco. If caught selling these products, the penalty for a violation is $500. The other law that will be more strongly enforced is the plastic bag ban. The requirements of this law, which are all in effect, are that no store can give out a single use plastic bag. A convenience store (under 2500 sq ft) or non-food retailer can give out paper bags. No Styrofoam containers or cups can be given out to anyone. Single-use plastic straws cannot be provided to customers unless they ask an employee for one. A first violation is a warning, second is a $500 fine.

Marketplace Update

The marketplace is looking more unpredictable than normal nowadays. On the one hand, we’ve seen rack prices drop 20 cents a gallon between Monday and Tuesday, mostly due to the switch from summer blend, which is more expensive, to winter blend gas. On the other hand, we might have expected prices to increase due to the price of oil increasing from $80 to over $90 a barrel, as the economic outlook worldwide has gotten better and as the Saudis and Russians have continued to cut oil production to drive up the price. With those two attributes combined, it’s hard to say what direction we should expect prices to go. Usually, it’s around the next couple weeks during November thru January that we see tend to see the lowest prices of the year.
